HEALTHCARE

Chris B. Wiggins for Congress

Healthcare Issues

My Goals For Reform

I will go to Washington and defend the Affordable Care Act vehemently while increasing the options for everyone in this country to have access. Healthcare is an undeniable human right that belongs exclusively to each person and their physician. Our goal is to bring costs down and eliminate the choice between paying for care or paying for other needs. I am committed to adding a Public Option to the Affordable Care Act while not interfering with the freedom to use private insurance.

Single Payer Healthcare

  • Universal healthcare for all with access to any hospitals and government acting as the intermediary instead of insurance administrators.
  • Negotiate drug prices without price caps and allow the ability to buy prescription drugs from other entities.
  • Support the Freedom from Price Gouging Act to prevent drug manufacturers from profiting off unreasonable price spikes.
  • Birth control and women’s health products are to be covered by insurance providers.
  • Consumers should be permitted to establish personal healthcare savings accounts and to choose their healthcare provider. They should be free to purchase pharmaceutical drugs across state lines and also in other countries.
  • Limit what healthcare providers, including hospitals, can charge for out-of-network care at twice what Medicare pays for the same service.

Single Payer Healthcare, 11 trillion dollars in household savings, 9% decrease in administrative costs compared to how much hospitals paid with private insurers. Medicare paid 2.3%, 12.2 for insurance. Medicare for All will sharply reduce administrative spending and reimburse physicians and other non-hospital providers at current Medicare rates. Medicare for All will sharply reduce administrative spending and reimburse hospitals at an average of 110% of current Medicare rates, with appropriate adjustments for rural hospitals, teaching hospitals, and other care providers with challenging cost structures.

Funding

  • This plan leads to 1 trillion dollars in household savings, a 9% decrease in administrative costs compared to how much hospitals paid with private insurers.
  • Through single-payer, we will sharply reduce administrative spending and reimburse hospitals at an average of 110% of current Medicare rates, with appropriate adjustments for rural hospitals, teaching hospitals, and other care providers with challenging cost structures.
  • We are asking billionaires to pitch in six cents on each dollar of net worth above $1 billion; we can raise an additional $1 trillion in revenue (Ultra Wealth tax).
  • Country by country minimum tax of 35% brings in 1.6 trillion, also closing a loophole that accounts for a 15% deficit in what should’ve been paid brings in 7.7 trillion over 10 years.
  • Middle-class Americans would no longer pay health premiums or co-pays and would not pay new taxes to replace those costs. They’ll pay taxes on whatever additional take-home pay they receive from this plan. That would add $1.4 trillion in revenue each year.
  • The projected 9 trillion over a decade employees spend on premiums to insurance would be spent on our plan. This accounts for a 4.9 trillion-a-year plan.
